Evidence, method and the habit of testing what you are told.

This faculty teaches science as a way of thinking: how a claim becomes evidence, how experiments are designed and criticised, how the human body works, and how the climate and environment systems around us behave. It supports learners returning to study, parents helping children with school science, and anyone moving toward health, laboratory, research or environmental work. All material is written by Mai Studies. These courses are professional learning, not regulated qualifications, degrees or accredited awards.

Curriculum pathway

Three levels, each with its own aim, entry expectations and assessed outcomes.

Level 1 Foundation

Typically 6 weeks

Rebuild the core science vocabulary, units and reasoning that everything else rests on.

Assessed outcomes

  • Use scientific units, scales and notation correctly
  • Describe how an experiment is structured
  • Read a graph or table and state what it does and does not show

Entry expectations

Open to all. No prior science study needed.

Level 2 Practitioner

Typically 8 weeks

Apply method and data handling to real biological, chemical and environmental questions.

Assessed outcomes

  • Design a fair test with controls and variables
  • Handle measurement uncertainty honestly
  • Explain body systems and environmental cycles accurately

Entry expectations

Comfortable with Level 1 material or school science.

Level 3 Advanced

Typically 8 weeks

Evaluate published evidence and produce a defensible piece of your own research writing.

Assessed outcomes

  • Critique a study's design, sample and conclusions
  • Distinguish correlation from causation in real literature
  • Write a structured evidence review with references

Entry expectations

Completion of Level 2 or equivalent.
