Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. We also use related technologies — local storage and session storage — which work similarly. Throughout this policy, "cookies" includes those technologies.

• Strictly necessary items are set without consent under PECR reg. 6(4) because they are essential to a service you have requested, such as signing in.
• Preference items store a choice you actively made, such as the dark theme.
• We currently run no advertising or third-party analytics cookies on Maicourses. If that changes, we will ask for your consent through a cookie banner before any such cookie is set, and update this page.

If you sign in with Google, Google may set its own cookies during the sign-in flow, governed by Google's privacy notice.

When you first visit Maicourses we show a cookie choice panel with two options: Accept preferences and Essential only. Nothing optional is stored before you choose. Your decision, and the date you made it, are recorded in your own browser so we do not ask again on every page.

• Essential only — we keep just the sign-in and version items needed to run the platform, and we remove the stored theme preference.
• Accept preferences — we additionally remember your light or dark theme.
• Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. Clear the Maicourses site data in your browser and the choice panel appears again on your next visit.

Consent is never bundled with account registration, and refusing optional storage does not restrict your access to any course, assessment or certificate.

• All major browsers let you block, delete or restrict cookies and site data through their settings — see aboutcookies.org.
• Clearing site data will sign you out and reset your theme preference.
• Blocking strictly necessary items will prevent you from signing in or entering the classroom.
• We honour browser-level signals such as Global Privacy Control by treating them as a refusal of optional storage, because we set no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies in the first place.

Some cookie data is personal data under the UK GDPR because it can be linked to your learner account. Where that applies:

• Purpose limitation — session storage is used only to authenticate you and to load your own learning records. It is never used to profile you or to build advertising audiences.
• Lawful basis — necessary storage relies on our legitimate interest in operating a secure platform and on performing our contract with you; optional storage relies on your consent.
• No automated decision-making — nothing stored in your browser is used to make a decision about you with legal or similarly significant effects.
• Your rights — access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection all apply. Exercise them through the data request form.

Session items last only as long as your sign-in token or the browser tab. Preference items remain until you clear them. We do not extend cookie lifetimes silently.

Our hosting and authentication infrastructure may process session data outside the UK. Where that happens, transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or equivalent safeguards, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Maicourses is designed for adult professional learners and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly set cookies for, or create accounts for, children under 13. If you believe a child has registered, tell us through the data request form and we will remove the account and associated data.

This policy was written specifically for Maicourses and describes only storage this platform actually sets. It is not copied from another organisation's notice, and it makes no certification, accreditation or partnership claim that Maicourses cannot evidence. If you believe any wording on this site infringes your copyright, report it through our Intellectual Property Policy and we will review it promptly.

We review this policy at least annually and whenever we add, change or remove a cookie. Material changes will be notified on this page and, where consent is required, by prompting you again.
